Langa Township was formed in the early 1920s. By 1927 was formally registered as a community. The best part of the township was named after King Langalibalele, who fought against the British settlers, but funny enough the street names of Langa were not named by people of Langa, eg, Bitterhout, Junglewalk, Church  street, Lerothori and Washington street which was later changed to King Langalibalele .
